Kolkata is witnessing rising concern after Tollywood director Utsav Mukherjee went missing on Thursday afternoon, with his last known phone location traced near Ultadanga. More than 16 hours after he left home, there has been no confirmed trace of his whereabouts, triggering anxiety among family members and the film fraternity.
According to his wife, Maupiya Mukherjee, the director had stepped out around late morning to withdraw money from a bank in the Nimta area. He left his personal phone at home due to an expected OTP and carried his late father’s phone instead. The couple last spoke around 2:22 pm, after which the phone was found switched off, initially believed to be due to a drained battery.
As hours passed without any contact or return, concern escalated. His wife visited the police station in the evening and again later at night when there was still no information. A missing person complaint has been lodged at Anandapur Police Station. Police later informed the family that the phone had been last traced near Ultadanga, but subsequent tracking attempts failed to establish any current location.
The situation is further complicated by recent personal circumstances, as Utsav Mukherjee’s father had passed away just days earlier. While the family resides in Anandapur, they maintain a house in Nimta, where he had reportedly gone on Thursday. He was also expected to visit a producer’s residence, but never reached there, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his movements.
Utsav Mukherjee, who got married in February this year, is known for his work as a director and screenwriter in Tollywood. He contributed to films such as Aparajito, Bhitu, Bhobishyoter Bhoot, and Borunbabur Bondhu. With no leads so far, concern continues to mount as police await further developments to initiate a detailed investigation.
